The Olympics 2024 are just around the corner, and one of the most exciting parts is the unveiling of the national team uniforms. With Paris hosting the Summer 2024 Games and brands from Ralph Lauren to Berluti outfitting the teams, the Olympic uniforms combine cutting-edge technology with cultural elements to be not only functional but also stylish and eye-catching. Here, we explore the top five Olympic uniforms of 2024, highlighting the designers and the unique features of each team's outfits.

1. Team Mongolia: Tradition and Luxury

Designer: Michel&Amazonka

The uniforms created for Mongolia by the Ulaanbaatar-based fashion label Michel & Amazonka caused a sensation on TikTok when they were revealed in July. Designed for athletes and flag-bearers to wear during the Olympics' opening and closing ceremonies, these uniforms feature intricate details inspired by traditional Mongolian deels, with dark red, navy, and gold embroidered collars, cuffs, and vests, as well as pleated skirts and draped capes. Each uniform took an average of 20 hours to complete.

Complemented by accessories like embroidered pouch bags, sash belts, and Buryat hats, each uniform also showcases symbols tied to the Paris Olympics and Mongolia, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Soyombo symbol. Michel & Amazonka, led by two sisters, have also created uniforms for Mongolian Airlines and Team Mongolia at the 2020 Tokyo Games and the 2022 Beijing Games.

2. Team USA: Patriotism and Innovation

Designers: Ralph Lauren and J.Lindeberg

Ralph Lauren, known for its classic American style, has created elegant and timeless pieces for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The uniforms feature tailored single-breasted wool blazers, striped oxford shirts, and tapered jeans for the opening, while the closing ceremony includes sporty moto-style jackets and white denim.

These outfits embrace a patriotic spirit and sense of unity (much needed lately) with a palette of red, white, and blue, using sustainable materials such as recycled polyester and USA-grown Responsible Wool Standard certified wool.

J. Lindeberg, a renowned Swedish brand, has added a modern twist to the uniforms with bold and innovative designs for the USA Olympic Golf Team. The high-performance fabrics used in their designs enhance athletic performance, offering moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties. The collection includes stylish color-block cardigans and lounge suits, featuring bold prints and subtle design details that pay homage to the USA flag.

3. Team France: Elegance and Heritage

Designer: Berluti

Berluti, a renowned French fashion house, has successfully blended elegance with national pride in the uniforms for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Athletes will be dressed in white shirts and midnight-blue tuxedo jackets with burnished lapels in the colors of the French flag. Men will wear matching plain pants with sneakers, while women have the option of a wrap skirt paired with patent moccasins.

Accessories include a pocket handkerchief or scarf in the same burnished pattern and a hand-varnished belt for men. Each item features an embroidered label with the slogan "Artisan of all victories."

“The sentence was embroidered in gold thread for a symbolism of victory, but in a discreet way. To tell them that we are with them and behind them," said Agnès Fillioux, director of industrialization at Berluti.

4. Team Canada: Inclusive and Functional

Designer: Lululemon

Lululemon has unveiled its first-ever summer Athlete Kit for Team Canada, incorporating extensive input from athletes. The collection features adaptive elements to accommodate various body types and abilities, such as magnetic-close zippers, pull-on loops, and sensory touch guides, alongside thermal comfort technologies and sweat-wicking fabrics for enhanced breathability. Feedback from 19 athletes across 14 sports ensured the uniforms meet their unique needs.

Highlights include the Convertible Pant & Jacket and customizable drawcords for a personalized fit. The collection also celebrates national pride with Canadian-inspired prints and modern silhouettes. Accessories include pocket handkerchiefs and scarves in burnished patterns, and hand-varnished belts.

“This will be one of the most adaptable and inclusive kits Canada has ever worn at the Games,” said Karen O’Neill, CEO of the Canadian Paralympic Committee.

5. Team China: Tradition and Sustainability

Designer: ANTA

Team China’s uniforms for the Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games, designed by ANTA, showcase a blend of Chinese culture and green technology. The uniforms, created for victory ceremonies, feature classic Chinese styling with “dragon scales” and “dragon whiskers,” utilizing embossing, patchwork, and embroidery techniques. Sustainability is at the core of these uniforms, crafted from recycled fibers, making them the first carbon-neutral official uniforms for the Chinese delegation. The "Mountain and River Project," launched by ANTA, encouraged sports enthusiasts to collect discarded plastic bottles, which were then used in the manufacturing process.

ANTA has also introduced a new Olympic cultural IP, "ANTA Ling Loong," which portrays a spirited dragon reflecting the vibrant spirit of Generation Z athletes. This character breaks away from traditional images, embodying human personality and emotion.
